We were pleased to partner with the Center for African Development to host for a public talk Dr. Jakana Thomas, associate professor political science at Michigan State University.
Thomas's talk, "African Women in Violent Politics" explored 'the good, the bad, and the ugly' of women in conflict. She problematized the narrow conception many people have of women as passive victims in conflict settings. Leveraging her quantitative and qualitative research findings, she presented a broader, more accurate story, which includes women as perpetrators of conflict and terrorism, and women as peace makers and problem solvers.
Thank you for sharing your insider insights with our scholarly community here at William & Mary, Dr. Thomas!
