Book Launch: The Problem of Democracy, by Dr. Shadi Hamid

On November 9, the International Justice Lab had the unique privilege of hosting a book launch for The Problem of Democracy: America, the Middle East, and the Rise and Fall of an Idea, authored by Brookings Center for Middle East Policy Senior Fellow Dr. Shadi Hamid. Published by Oxford University Press, the book presents a compelling response to the democratic dilemma in which democracy and free elections produce “bad outcomes”. Dr. Hamid argues for “democratic minimalism” as a way to decouple democracy and liberalism in the Middle East and reimagine democracy as an end instead of just a means.
